Culture |
Culture is something we create; it’s not something that can exist outside of human interaction and self-expression. That’s exactly why a glimpse at culture at a given place and time can help us understand not only our past, but also our present. We explore culture as expressed through an array of media and bring the best findings right to you.

Capable of growing to over 10 feet long, this is one fish you probably wouldn't want to feel slither past your leg while taking an afternoon dip. Unfortunately, their large size also makes them a prize catch, and these giant catfish have nearly been fished to extinction.

Felix Schmidberger design for a laptop for 2015 with OLED touch screen. The computer itself has an OLED touchscreen, where you can directly work on, much like with a umpc or pda. The whole screen is a slider, as it can be moved forward to reveal a secondOLED touchscreen underneath, where you can have a keyboard or working controls, similar to a setup with 2 monitors.

The Orkin Design Rolltop would definitely be an item in the must-have list of most geeks, even if it is but a concept at point of publishing. Why do we say so? This "notebook" comes with a flexible OLED display which also handles multitouch for those who are head over heels with the iPhone. When fully rolled out, it ends up as a 17" flatscreen display but can also be folded into a 13" tablet when required. No idea on whether it will run on wireless power or not, but it seems as though the detachable stand will hold the tablet's stylus, power adapter and USB ports.

Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG Coupe
Engine: 621-hp, 6.0-liter, bi-turbo V-12
0-60 mph: 4.2 seconds
Starting price: $215,500
The Mercedes-Benz AMG division used to be a separate company that souped up stock Mercedes-Benz models. Bigger, more powerful engines continue to be the heart and soul of the AMG treatment, even though the company became a wholly owned subsidiary years ago. The engine in the Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG Coupe is a handcrafted V-12. The AMG tradition is that the individual master craftsman who builds each engine puts his signature on it when he’s finished. That’s not to say the end product is some quaint relic. Top speed is 186 mph, not bad for a car that could be used as a family car, unlike a two-seat racecar.

Aston Martin Vanquish

Top speed is 183 mph. Aston Martin also offers a long list of personalized options like matching a favorite color to paint the exterior, or custom leather. Aston Martin calls the customized collection of options “Q by Aston Martin.” Aston Martin’s brand image is caught up with classic James Bond movies.

Bentley calls the Bentley Mulsanne “the grandest of grand tourers.” The interior has features like wood veneers and leather upholstery made from “blemish-free” hides, from herds raised in cooler climates where there are fewer insects. Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase
Engine: 453-hp, 6.75-liter V-12
0-60 mph: 5.8 seconds
Starting price: $298,900
The Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase model is about nine inches longer than the standard-wheelbase. That extra room is most noticeable in the back seat, where the owner presumably will spend a lot of his or her time being driven around. The brand image is old-fashioned but Rolls-Royce’s current cars have high-tech features like cameras at five locations to watch out for obstacles when parking, and to project the predicted path on a screen when reversing.

Built on a steep, terraced hillside, an ancient temple across the plunging gorge, what could be more dramatic – or inspiring. Add to this the sounds of the jungle – chattering monkeys and calling birds – and it goes without saying that this Balinese hideaway is often described as heaven on earth.

The Ebenalp (1,640 m) is the northernmost summit of the Appenzell Alps. The mountain is a popular hiking destination and has been accessible by cable car from Wasserauen since 1955. Ebenalp attracts up to 200,000 visitors each year.
From the high plateau of the cable car station visitors have a panoramic view of the rolling hills of Appenzell. Impressive trails start at the station and lead to a network of mountain huts. These hiking routes lead to popular sites such as Säntis and Seealpsee. The nearby Wildkirchli hut can be reached by hiking through a cave.
